Isaiah's Finds of the Week

a year of progress, a year in review...   This year I have expanded my growth tremendously. I have been able to more fully grasp what it is to put out music, to make music, and to really invest in music. Before this year, $20 was the most I'd spend on a record - maybe $50 if I'm wild. Then a great friend told me ... "IF you want the GOOD stuff; you're gonna have to pay." I began to manage money so I could invest in big money records - and that's where the fun came in!    I've also more fully grasped the game of being an audiophile. I keep learning and improving my recording techniques, my remastering skills and becoming more wise as to what cartridge will make my records sound the BEST. I've had the privilege to even remaster a record that was previously unreleased for a client interested in my work!   I have also been able to fulfill my dream of joining a band. This year I learned the following terms and I applied them as I read some pretty great stuff: Allusion is a reference to something the author thinks we should know The plot is the sequence of events in a story The theme is the main idea Diction is the choice and use of words Syntax is the arrangement of words used to create well formed sentences Indirect Characterization is reference to a character without mention of their name Direct Characterization is referencing to a character directly Symbolism is using something to represent another thing bigger than its actual meaning. Getting to do something - for me, is to enjoy it. Having to do something is a chore. Having to do something is most times dreadful. Even weekly or regular things for me I can still see as getting to do something. Like rehearsing with my band or remastering Records - it’s all fun. But having to put gas in the truck, go to the store, make dump runs - that sucks and i HAVE to do it.

Regardless to say, this was likely the BUSIEST weekend of 2018 for myseld. On Friday I woke up around 6 AM, loaded up my DJ equipment and prepared for the annual West Coast Kustoms Cruisin’ Nationals Friday night cruise; it’s my annual tradition to spin oldies during the cruise and people know me well there. As well as having to set up at 10 AM, I also got ready to attend my mom’s Allan Hancock College graduation! Just before the graduation, I picked up a Corsage for my lovely Corina as Sunday was prom. After attending the ceremony, I rushed to the cruise and commenced the classics!!! I got home around 11 AM, then woke up the next day and prepared for a gig with my band - The Drive-In Romeos at the West Coast Kustoms Car Show at the fairgrounds. We played a great set and people from all over watched us. People from Japan, Australia, the U.K. - and many other states. what makes something funny? I don’t know, it just happens

Ooo well, let’s say I always think of whats to come. I know I’m focused when stuff is going how I planned it to be. I like to take it a day at a time with my future always in mind and how I can improve the future through my experiences throughout the day. I am a very busy person and I’ve been for a while lately. I’ve found it’s best to keep a written record of what I need to do so that way I’m never lost.

Yoselyn’s presentation was good because it explored multiple career fields AND Gee brought cookies. A win win

Me, I’m always thinking about what’s to come. I always think of the future because I wonder if it will be good. Sadly, time and unforeseen occurrences beset us all; and I always hope that no matter what obstacle I face, I will overcome it! My thinking is influenced by what I do now and how it’s going to affect my future. I’ve akways thought this way and I don’t see it changing any time soon. However, maybe I shouldn’t be so anxious about the future, sometimes I feel like taking it one day at a time is the answer to being happy and balanced.

A time I took responsibility for something was when the band fell short of some money for Washington D.C and I put together a car show for our cause! This all took place last Saturday, May 12th. I was able to help raise almost $3,000! We had Vaqueras and HanoHano Shaved Ice cater to us, as well as a few car clubs that brought out their cars for our cause. We all had a great time - live music by local DJ’s and even performances by Umo and The Drive-In Romeos! What was the best for me? Knowing I worked hard to put this together, it made me proud and it made me happy knowing I was able to bring our community together for a good cause. It is certainly something I’ll always remember.

I personally can use this hour to show what I’ve learned in this course by putting it to use while writing my masterpiece presentation. I can work on my Ethos, Pathos and Logos and my diction and syntax and so on. It’s all about applying what you know to something much bigger in order to show you can and you know what to do.

The benefits of being an audiophile and a collector is that, I get to hear the rarest records in the clearest sound quality! Most collectors don’t pay any mind to their setup, it’s more of having the rare record and playing it on any turntable (which most times isn’t the best.) For me, I pride myself in my setup alone. I’ve got around $3,000 invested in it. It includes a 197x¿ (I believe 1974) Spectro Acoustics 217 Preamplifier / Phono Stage which itself is a rare piece. I run it through a vacuum tube buffer and play records on a number of highly accurate and precise phono cartridges. Hearing a rare record you’re used to only hearing bad as good for the first time is an amazing feeling. That’s what I get to do every time I get a rare record, and I’m happy I get to be my own and do things not many people do!

My favorite topic was about what it means to make a first impression. It made me reflect about how others who don’t know me might view me, and it made me want to be a better person. I wanted to be more outgoing and I definitely have applied it in my life.

Technology has certainly advanced in 65 years. In 1953, when Ray Bradbury first published his literary genius, Farenheit 451 - the topics discussed within the book seemed so alien. Fast forward to the year 2018, and lots of scenarios in this book are things we’re accustomed to in the future. The role of technology in society plays a great deal of importance in our daily lives. With the way things are now days, without technology we’re kind of doomed per se, we just wouldn’t know how to carry on without it. The book mentions several devices that we see as commonplace nowadays, for one: the earphone! What we see as “Little Clamshells” are likened to that of modern day earphones. The “Little green bullet” is likened to a Bluetooth earpiece, or what about the “Television the size of a postal card?” Basically your modern day smart phone, and to think - this was all mentioned 65 years ago! if someone I didn’t know came and told me they were my brother, i’d be in shock. However i’d See if we resemble. Other than that, I can’t say I’d do much else. However in my case I don’t know of my mom being with anyone else besides my brother and sisters dad - that’s it. So yes it’d be a surprise. I do have a deceased brother but aside from anyone lost - I’d be amazed.

I left off where Montag escapes the helicopters and the hound and ends up on the outskirts of the city and where he meets the river. I see how he sees the stars again and feels human again for once.

Coincidentally, I took the trashes out today as the truck will come to my neighborhood every Wednesday and pick them up. For me, it’s something I hate doing. I also hate sweeping and drying/putting away dishes. I do it every day, but I hate it. I do not look forward to it, however when I do it I feel a sense of pride. I feel pride to see what the work of my hands has done and it feels good knowing I get to help keep my house beautiful. One thing I also hate is cleaning my fish tank. Having to chase every fish with a net and then draining gallons of water. It’s a hassle but again I do enjoy looking at my fish when it’s finally clean. I do these things to maintain my daily life and make everything look good - if I don’t; it’d turn to trash.

I feel like this response was to explain the hidden meanings inside the story and to stress the importance of Bradbury’s way of writing. The response also goes on to tell us how the power of knowledge lies within each and every one of ourselves. Montag changes because he begins to think for himself and he discovers power of his very own knowledge, the author uses his own experiences as being a child and barely picking this book up for the first time and being introduced to many ideas of writing that lie within the pages of this masterpiece of a novel.

Montag is ultimately headed for death. He is definitely thinking for himself and people are taking notice. They try and stop him but he keeps going and doing his own thing. I feel like I do the same, they don’t like what I do but it don’t stop me. Others who hate against what I do is a motivation for me, and I love to show that I can do things for myself, by myself and prosper. I feel like this will lead me to success

I think people are afraid to make mistakes because they don’t want to be judged. They want to seem perfect so they have higher self esteem I guess. For me, a mistake is an opportunity to grow in knowledge and learn how to get better. Yesterday, I rehearsed with The Drive In Romeos as a stand in Sax man. They really liked me a lot and even mentioned of keeping me if I collabed with the Tenor player (I’m a Bari.) Point is, I made mistakes but I noticed that as a band we all make mistakes and learn how to be better and play off of our mistakes!
