    Jimmy Santiago Baca really hits home about what it's like to be an immigrant in America. He mostly zeroes in on being a Mexican; but being in Santa Maria which is basically nothing but raza, lots of us can relate to the oppression being put on our own brown people coming in for a better life. We have been oppressed by the government and country who claims to promise us a better life. When our brown people enter the United States, most of us are treated like animals without souls. We are a people, we have a voice, we come from the same continent - we are ALL humans. Jimmy really brings out the cruel truth of people who come for a better life, and end up living a hard life in the states as well. It only goes to show just how much we have been oppressed, yet hardly anything has been done. Our brown women are raped, sexualized and stereotyped as nothing but housewives. Our brown men have been spat on and stepped all over, breaking their backs doing hard work for barely any money. This poem really lets others see just what it's like to be brown.

    "It's been over 100 years, since we lost the war. Our brothers crossed the border, but tell me what for? Now all of our men are locked up in chains, keeping their families in misery and pain. There's only one thing I've gotta know, somebody tell me - where did our pride go??" - Thee Baby Cuffs W/ The M-Tet

Is this record what I think it is???

This Is My Story b/w More Peanuts (La Vienteunica) The Valentines - San Antonio, TX 1965/66 King Bee K-103     For about 3-4 years, "This Is My Story" by The Valentines was at the TOP of my want list. I searched high and low and just a week and a half ago I was able to get my very own copy of this EXTREMELY RARE record! Why the caps??? Because, the rarity of this is RIDICULOUS. Why is it so rare? Well first, let's learn a bit about this record.      FIRST OF ALL!!!! This is NOT Richard Barrett's group from NYC who were signed to Rama records.     Released around the year 1965/66, this record is virtually unknown to most people.
