Notes From Today's Lecture

MLK     MLK used a variety of different components in order to really persuade his audience with his "I Have  A Dream" speech. The Ethos Pathos & Logos of this all was well thought out by "The King" and it really made a difference.       Ethos: Martin was well dressed, properly groomed - and stood tall and proud. A person attending to detail in himself will have better detail in his talk. He is a powerful a respected man and sure looks like it.     Pathos: Martin had a real passionate message and tone. His choice of words showed that he really cared, and the way he presented this through his tone of voice was beautifully displayed. His words were empowering, he was empathetic and spoke with much commission for his audience.     Logos: Logos - meaning logic; Martin REALLY knew what he was talking about. Civil Rights was what he lived for, he was certainly a pro in his own game. His speech was so beautifully composed like a song.

I, SOCRATES

What have I learned??     People are too damn quiet. The lesson? It never hurts to try and speak up because there were times of conversing about the topic pertaining to the socratic seminar. However, I've learned to really... just do what you're told and life'll be easy (most times.)

MUSIC AS LITERATURE

Image
Music As Literature...     Before I list many reasons why I consider music to be literature... hear this first, AND then you'll see the beauty behind this form of literature called "Music."      Paul Simon's album "Graceland" is considered a masterpiece by many people. The motive and effort put into it and the story behind it is enough to make one who doesn't even like that kind of music want to take a listen to it. It is commendable for Paul to have made a genre more relative to our  American culture. As Paul is considered a musician, I also consider him an author. Every song he sang has meaning, and written out; you'll find yourself reading a poem.     As for myself, I am a huge fanatic of Vocal Group harmony, I live, walk, breath and talk Doo Wop - anyone knows that. Knowing many people associated with the genre, Artists, Collectors and Enthusiasts alike all know that Doo Wop is a storytelling genre. Most of the times in a balla

ACCOMPLISH

What do I hope to accomplish?     I hope to learn more about putting myself out there. I want to learn how to make myself available to others and how to better advertise my own business. I also want to learn how to brush up on my writing skills, but all in all - I want to learn what it takes to drive me and my dream to success!

NEXT STEPS

What Will I do??     Personally, I believe i'm on the road for success if I keep doing what i'm doing. I just want to stay humble, and keep my mind on my grind so to speak. Researching is no homework for me when it comes to music. I enjoy it, and I will do what I can to reach out to others in the business, old time singers, and gather many more records!

THE BENEFIT

How Will This Big Question Benefit the World and Myself?     I belive in sharing the joy of music with others, I will see their happiness - which in turn will bring upon my own happiness. Not only that, but giving recognition to songs that deserve more attention than they got! Finding rare music keeps me out of trouble, and I love the compliments I receive for it. As mentioned before, It is my greatest joy bringing happiness to others with my music!

THE ROAD

How did I get so interested with music???     Growing up in SM around the lowrider community, and may dad who was heavily into oldies - I grew up to them. Above are a few albums I vividly remember growing up to! East Side Story & Lost Soul Oldies were a series, these are just 1 of each of many of the whole compilations in the entire series. I took a liking to the Oldies that had tight harmony! I was too young to remember a lot of the East Side Story, only remembering some more well known oldies. When I was around 10 my dad brought home a collection of Lost Soul Oldies. I really loved all the songs with KILLER harmonies; I never just really find myself getting to into the music. This all changed when one day I was watching an infomercial, it happened to be advertising love songs from the 50's. I always pictured Doo Wop as crappy barbershop music. It wasn't long before I heard "Dream Lover" by Bobby Darin and "Teenager In Love" by Dion

BIG QUESTION

Image
What and Why      My big question is starting my own record label. In a way, I'm halfway there!! Why does it interest me? Well, music is my passion and my life. I want nothing more than to share the joy of music I find with other people.

New Vacuum Tube SCORE

Image
Military Vacuum Tubes    When it comes to quality in sound, vacuum tubes are the way to go for most audiophiles such as myself! Scrounging on the internet one morning last week - I stumbled across this NOS (Old items that are still in new condition 'New Old Stock') For $19, i couldn't handle or contain myself and immediately bought these babies. Manufactured by Mullard in March, 1980; these tubes deliver excellent sound quality. These particular "Military" vacuum tubes aren't really used for the military, in fact; they are labeled as such because they are manufactured up to the American Military standard of quality, (in other words... these guys mean business.) I am lucky enough to have these and stay tuned for a recording made with these !

Things I did on break??

This may come as a surprise to most of you but... I did NOTHING on this break. Aside from going to SLO once, I found a killer record called "Born To Wander" by Jack Wood - and bought only one record online! (I'm still waiting for it... cost me $100!) My apologies for not posting on the blog, life has just been slow and boring this month ....

A song lost in time, becomes a hit 50 years after its release

A record with an AMAZING story      If you watch TV a lot, chances are you've seen this Bacardi House Party commercial . Initially aired in 2015, this fun looking commercial was backed up by a killer Teener / Garage sounding song, but no one knew what it was called! This is the story of "Born To Wander."     In 1966, Jack Woods began playing gigs at a bar in Grand Rapids, Michigan only making $10 a night! A frequent costumer of the bar complimented Jack on his voice and suggested he make a record; he noticed Jack's musical ability. The idea flowed nicely in Jack's head as he had already written up some songs. Around 2 weeks later on a Sunday afternoon, he wrote "Born To Wander" in around 20 minutes! Seeing potential in the song, he rehearsed it for a few hours with a local band. Jack found 2 black girls for background vocals and spent no more than a few hours practicing with them and the group.      A few weeks later, Jack booked a Sun

New Holy Grail?!

ONE OF MY RAREST RECORDS!!!!! (Hear " Angel of Love ") (Hear "' Cause I Love You ")     Here is my most recent score! The record in the picture is my very own copy, and at 16 I am so fortunate to own this. I can't say too much about this record, as I myself and other collectors really know nothing abut it. It is considered to be "Rarest of the Rare!" I'm so happy to finally have it in my collection. Please hear it in the included links above, "Angel of Love" is a smooth and KILLER Doo Wop ballad. "'Cause I Love You" is a legit corner jiver any vocal group harmony enthusiast would enjoy.
